Mumbai, May 28, 2015 – The Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC), today, interacted and sought recommendations in detail with rolling stock manufacturers on various issues such as procurement of rolling stock, life cycle maintenance of rolling stock, regenerative braking claims, the advantages and the disadvantages of steel and aluminum rakes and the cost reduction measures during the daylong workshop.
Besides these, the critical issue of assured life cycle support of 30 years of maintenance of rolling stock was also deliberated at length on warranty, defect liability maintenance, repairs, obsolescence management support.
The intent of the workshop was to understand the changes and developments in the technical field and specifications to provide consumer friendly, environment friendly, cost effective and safe metro trains. “The exercise was successful. Various rolling stock manufacturers did respond positively and in good number. Such efforts will help us formulate tender documents and request for proposals”, said Ms.Ashwini Bhide, MD, MMRC. “This will bring to the fore a competitive edge to the entire bidding process”, said Ms.Bhide further.
Reputed manufacturers such as Bombardier, Hitachi, Alstom, Siemens, Mitsubishi Electric and CAF (Construcciones Auxiliar Ferrocarriles) made presentations during the workshop. Other manufacturers such as DEML, Enfaldo and Kawasaki participated in technical discussions.
